Got a quick question for you – what do you recommend as a system for backing up everything I have on google (email, cal, docs, etc). Have become concerned about “what if I lost my acct” etc as am very dependent on them.

Totally understandable. I use, and have set up a few companies with https://backupify.com … they have a free option that might work but I suspect you’ll need their Google Apps plan, at 3$ a month, it works well and covers all Google’s services!
Another option for Mac users with a one time cost is called CloudPull
